COMPANY INFORMATION MEMO

Founded on 22 April 1999 as GALP – Petróleos e Gás de Portugal SGPS, S.A., as a result of the restructuring of the energy sector in Portugal, to operate in the oil and natural gas businesses.

Two pre-existing Portuguese government-owned companies were placed under our control at that time: Petróleos de Portugal - Petrogal, S.A. ("Petrogal"), the only refiner and the leading distributor of oil products in Portugal, and GDP - Gás de Portugal, SGPS, S.A. ("GDP SGPS"), the company responsible for the import, transportation and distribution of natural gas in Portugal.

Today GALP is the Portugal's leading integrated oil and natural gas company, with a growing presence in Spain and a developing power business.

Its activities comprise the following business areas:

  • Exploration and Production (E&P)
  • Refining and Marketing (R&M)
  • Gas and Power (G&P)

Presently, including new assets acquired recently, It employs about 8000 employees in more than ten countries throughout the world.

GALP participates in more than 80 companies and operates two refineries in Portugal with a total refining capacity of 310,00 bbl/d.

In 2007 its turnover was 12,600 M€, with an investment in the last years of about 450 M€/year.

Last year GALP allocated 2,5 M€ to pursue its policy of social responsibility.
