His contribution towards the progress of engineering earned him an honorary doctorate from the University of Central England. With 20 years experience, he was leader of Motorola and of various telecommunications companies. As President of Cisco for Europe, Chris Dedicoat is responsible for 5,000 employees in 20 countries, in what became, under his leadership, the largest market for the company. Founded 21 years ago by a small group of scientists from the University of Stanford, today Cisco has 47 thousand employees and is the world leader in networking equipment for the Internet. Cisco developed a strong culture of innovation based on a major investment (3.2 billion USD in 2005), in the capacity to acquire and incorporate “start ups” (it purchased 108 since 1993) and on a network of R&D centres spread throughout North America, Europe and Asia, with the R&D units based in Bangalore (India), Shanghai (China) and Herzliya (Israel) standing out due to their size. The “Cisco Networking Academies” program is available in 10 thousand schools, universities and community centres in 163 countries. It received the Excellence in Corporate Philanthropy Award from the Committee to Encourage Corporate Philanthropy.
